About this tool
Every photograph your phone takes is annotated with far more than the picture. Embedded EXIF data routinely records the precise latitude and longitude of the shutter press, the timestamp to the second, the device model and sometimes its serial number, and a full set of exposure parameters.
That is genuinely useful for organising a photo library and genuinely dangerous when shared carelessly. A single holiday snapshot posted to a forum can disclose a home address. This tool shows you exactly what is in the file — GPS fields called out explicitly — and then removes it, on your own machine, without the photograph ever being transmitted to anyone.
Questions
What is actually hidden in my photos?
Typically: the exact GPS coordinates where the shot was taken, the date and time to the second, the camera or phone model and serial number, lens and exposure settings, and often a thumbnail of the original image from before you edited it. Social networks usually strip this, but files sent by email, messaging apps in document mode, or uploaded to forums frequently keep it intact.
Why keep orientation?
The orientation tag tells viewers which way up the photo should be displayed. Removing it along with everything else can make images appear sideways in some applications. Keeping just that one field is the safe default when you only care about privacy.
Is stripping metadata reversible?
No. The cleaned copy genuinely no longer contains the data, which is the point. Keep your original if the capture details matter to you.
