About this tool
A watermark on a PDF serves notice: it marks a document as draft, confidential, or belonging to a specific recipient. Whether that notice is respected is a social contract rather than a technical guarantee, but visible attribution is often all that is needed to prevent casual misuse.
Text watermarks are stored as vector operations in the PDF page stream, which keeps them sharp at any print size. Tiling stamps a repeating pattern at a configurable pitch — harder to cleanly mask out than a single centred mark.

Can someone remove my watermark?
A determined person with the right tools can. Watermarks in PDFs are content elements in the page stream; they are not encryption or DRM. A tiled low-opacity mark is harder to remove than a single corner stamp, but both are extractable by someone who knows what they are doing. For genuine access control, use PDF protection with a password.
What is the difference between placing the watermark in front of or behind the content?
In front means the watermark overlaps any existing text or images. Behind means it sits under them — the existing content is unobscured but the watermark shows through on blank areas. Behind works better for image watermarks; in front works better for bold text like DRAFT.
